Careers
This page is where we'll share open roles at Kivvo as we grow. Right now, there aren't any — but this page explains who we are, what we're building, and how to get in touch if you think you'd be a good fit in the future.
The short version
We're not hiring right now. Kivvo is currently two people.
We may hire in the future as Kivvo grows — in engineering, design, growth, and other areas.
If you'd like to be considered for future roles, you can register your interest via a support ticket on the Support page.
We hire in New Zealand only, at least for now.
We're honest about what working here is like — it's early-stage, small, and high-agency.
Who we are
Kivvo is a New Zealand company building a goal-based savings app. We help people set savings goals and contribute toward them on a schedule that fits their life. We're early-stage and small — currently two people.
We're building in a space that matters: personal finance for New Zealanders. We care about making Kivvo honest, useful, and trustworthy. We're less interested in hype and more interested in doing the work well.
What it's like working here
Because we're a two-person company, working at Kivvo (when we do hire) will feel different from working at a larger organisation.
What you can expect:
High agency. You'll have real ownership of your work. There won't be layers of management deciding what you do.
Direct communication. No corporate politics. We say what we think and expect the same.
Variety. Early-stage work means wearing many hats. You might be writing code in the morning and talking to users in the afternoon.
Honest trade-offs. We're small, so we can't do everything at once. We prioritise what matters most.
A clear product focus. We're building a savings app, not an ecosystem of ten products. The scope is bounded.
What you won't get (right now):
A large team to bounce ideas off
A well-oiled HR function
Extensive perks and benefits
A predictable, narrow job description
If any of the above matters a lot to you, that's fine — we're just not that company yet.
Where we're likely to hire first
When we do start hiring, we expect our first roles will be in one or more of these areas:
Engineering
Full-stack engineers with experience in Next.js, TypeScript, and Java (or willingness to learn).
Backend engineers with experience in Java, Spring Boot, and Postgres.
Frontend engineers with experience in React, Next.js, and design systems.
Design
Product designers who can work end-to-end — from research and wireframes to polished UI.
Brand and marketing designers who can help Kivvo look and feel consistent as we grow.
Growth and marketing
Growth generalists who can run experiments and understand our users.
Content and communications specialists who can write clearly and help us communicate well.
Operations
Operations generalists who can help with the non-product side of running a company — customer support, compliance, finance coordination.
Trust, safety, and compliance
Compliance and risk specialists who understand New Zealand financial services regulation.
Trust and safety specialists who can help us handle fraud, abuse, and user safety.
If your skills are adjacent to any of these, and you're interested in Kivvo, we'd like to hear from you.
How to register your interest
We don't have a formal application process yet. If you'd like to be considered for future roles:
Submit a support ticket via the Support page and:
Choose the closest category (for example, "Feature request" or "Other")
Tell us who you are and what you do
Tell us what kind of role you'd be interested in
Tell us why Kivvo interests you
Include a link to your portfolio, GitHub, LinkedIn, or anything else that shows your work
We'll keep your details on file, and we'll reach out if we have a role that fits.
We won't use email for recruiting. All communication about roles goes through the support process or, if we reach out to you, through the contact details you provide.
What we'll look for when we do hire
We're not going to pretend we have a formal rubric yet, but here's what we'll be looking for:
Genuine interest in Kivvo. We want people who care about what we're building, not just about having a job.
Craft. Whether you're an engineer, designer, or writer — we care about doing things well.
Range. Early-stage means doing many things. We value people who can learn quickly and work across boundaries.
Directness. We communicate directly. We want people who can do the same.
New Zealand context. We're a NZ company. Understanding New Zealand users, regulations, and culture matters.
We're not looking for prestige or credentials. We're looking for people who can do the work.
Diversity and inclusion
We want Kivvo to be a place where people from all backgrounds can do their best work. As we grow and hire, we'll aim to:
Hire fairly. Not on the basis of who someone knows, but on the basis of what they can do.
Pay fairly. Based on the role, not on prior salary history.
Support flexibility. Including for parents, carers, and people with disabilities.
Be honest about where we're not doing well. We're a small company, and we won't be perfect. But we'll be honest about it.
We'll update this page with more detail when we start hiring formally.
Employment basis
When we do hire, we'll be employing people in New Zealand. That means:
New Zealand employment law will apply.
KiwiSaver contributions will be part of the employment package where applicable.
Standard New Zealand employment protections — such as minimum wage, annual leave, and sick leave — will apply.
We're not currently set up to hire contractors or employees outside New Zealand.
